A summer experience…
The region around Grainau offers something for everyone. Whether you like to hike or prefer sporty mountain climbing – there are countless possibilities. Because hiking trails and climbing routes around the Zugspitze are well developed. How about a detour up to the Neuneralm, over the Höhenrain, or along the Kramer plateau to the Pflegersee? Mountain hikers like to use one of our 7 mountain railways. They take you up to the top and back down to the valley on foot. More demanding trails lead to the Stepbergalm and from there to the Kramer and Ziegspitze. If you already have enough mountain experience, the Alpspitze, Zugspitze and many other beautiful mountains attract you with tours and fixed rope routes.
A highlight is certainly the huge Partnach and Höllental Gorges – here thunderous water rushes through a narrow gorge. An experience that you will not forget so quickly. But there is also a lot to discover off the hiking trails.
The many lakes around Grainau are worth a detour. A leisurely walk leads to the emerald green Badersee. And the Eibsee is also not far away – on foot or by bike. And if you want to dive directly into the cool water, we recommend a visit to the Grainau indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
By the way: a world-famous building rises not far from Grainau. Ettal Monastery with its beautiful rococo church is not only an impressive sight from the outside. You should definitely take a look inside. Not far from here you will also find Linderhof Palace of Bavaria King Ludwig II.
…and an experience in winter!
But also off the Zugspitze is worth a detour. If you want to leave your car behind, it is best to take the Zugspitze cable car. It also stops at the Classic Ski Area – an area around Alpspitze, Kreuzeck and Hausberg. Who doesn’t know the world-famous Kandahar, where the world’s best professionals show their skills every year. Numerous modern lifts and cable cars connect this large ski area. Here everyone will find the right slope. Cosy huts against a magnificent mountain backdrop make every ski day an unforgettable experience. And if you would like to have a cosy snack, stop by at the Hochalm. In good weather you can also enjoy the sun outside in winter.
Perhaps you would like to try snowshoeing through the untouched winter world? A unique experience for you alone or with one of the free guided mountain guide hikes. Snowshoeing is not only healthy, it is also an intensive nature experience. And if you’re still full of energy, there are other activities on offer that offer plenty of variety – starting with ice skating, curling and sledding.
